Friends Against Cancer Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to support research efforts in better understanding prostate cancer and for developing innovative treatment options to improve health outcomes of those affected with this complex disease.
Established in 2014 by a group of friends realizing that too many men are being diagnosed with and fighting prostate cancer, especially many of our close friends and family members, we wanted to help.
Our first fund-raising effort was the inaugural Friends Against Cancer Golf Outing held September 12, 2014. Even with a short time frame to put this outing together we had over 82 supporters attending and raised over $10,000. We presented the University of Chicago, Department of Medicine, Section of Hematology/Oncology, headed by Russell Szmulewitz, MD with the check. These funds provide Dr. Szmulewitz, working in collaboration with other experts who also specialize in caring for patients afflicted with prostate cancer, additional funding for their research -- 100% of these funds go entirely to their research efforts.
On May 15, 2015 we held our second annual golf outing at the Village Greens of Woodridge, IL with over 144 supporters attending, and will be presenting the University of Chicago and Dr. Szmulewitz with another donation of $30,000.
On May 13, 2016 we held our 3rd annual golf outing at the Village Greens of Woodridge, IL with over 170 supporters attending the golf outing and dinner. We presented the University of Chicago and Dr. Szmulewitz with another donation of $40,000 making our total donations to date of $80,000.
Our efforts will continue through annual golf outings and will be exploring other opportunities to expand our fund-raising efforts. Friends Against Cancer and the University of Chicago Department of Medicine thank you for your past and future support to fight prostate cancer!
Thank You.
